7 Pin Aluminium Trailer Plug – LG1352
The 7 pin aluminium trailer plug LG1352 is a tough, road-proven towing connector for 12 V trailer and caravan lighting. It covers all standard road lights on most UK and European 7-core systems and is still the most common trailer plug on the road. Built in durable aluminium, it’s designed for daily use, regular coupling, and rough site conditions.
This plug exists to do one job well. Reliable road lighting between tow vehicle and trailer. Indicators, brakes, tail lights, fog, all on a simple and familiar 7 pin layout. If you run mixed fleets, hire trailers, or older caravans, this is usually the plug everyone expects to see.
The LG1352 uses a robust aluminium body, so it resists knocks, dropped drawbars, and life in the back of a toolbox far better than a light plastic plug. Contacts are clearly marked, which makes wiring straightforward for any competent auto electrician or workshop tech. Once wired, the locking collar gives a positive connection with standard 7 pin sockets on cars, vans, pickups, and light commercials.
European towing is slowly moving towards the 13 pin trailer plug, mainly to add a dedicated reverse light and extra functions. But right now, and for many years yet, 7 pin plugs will stay common on utility trailers, older caravans, horseboxes, builders’ plant, and agricultural kit. This plug keeps those assets road-legal and earning.
Wiring is simple. Strip the cable, disassemble the plug, remove the inner core, and connect each conductor to its clearly numbered pin. The assembly can only go back together one way, so there’s little risk of misalignment. Use a standard 7 core trailer cable, follow the recognised wiring colours for your market, and you’re done.
Key Features
- Standard 7 pin trailer plug – supports road lighting only on most trailers and caravans using the common 7-core system
- 12 Volt system – designed for 12 V towing electrics on cars, 4x4s, pickups, and light commercial vehicles
- Durable aluminium body – cast aluminium housing resists impact, abrasion, and workshop abuse better than plastic plugs
- Clearly marked pins – each terminal labelled by pin number, making wiring simple and reducing the risk of cross-connection
- Proven compatibility – mates with standard 7 pin sockets fitted to the majority of UK and European tow bars
- Road lighting functions – supports indicators, brake lights, tail lights, fog light and side lights (no reverse light on 7 pin standard)
- Service-friendly design – plug can be fully disassembled, so terminals and cable grip are easy to inspect, clean, or repair
- Positive cable retention – internal clamp holds the trailer cable securely to reduce strain on terminals and prevent intermittent faults
- Trusted towing format – still the most widely used plug on general-purpose trailers, even as 13 pin becomes more common on newer caravans
Ideal Applications
- General-purpose goods trailers – builders’ trailers, plant trailers, box trailers and tipper trailers using 7 pin lighting
- Caravans and camper trailers with existing 7 pin 12 V installations
- Horseboxes and livestock trailers that need robust, workshop-friendly connectors
- Utility and hire trailers in rental fleets where compatibility and ease of repair matter
- Agricultural and yard trailers towed by 4x4s, pickups, or road-registered tractors with 7 pin sockets
